A Complete Guide to Being Your Most Authentic Self
I’m a big believer in being your authentic self. Not easy to do, for sure, but when we are, it makes everything sooo much easier.
Why? Because we’re no longer trying to be who we THINK others want us to be. And there is freedom in that.
Years ago, I went on a date with a guy I met on Bumble. Like all first dates, we spent some time asking each other questions with the aim of getting to know each other. He asked me what my hobbies were and I told him: scrapbooking, reading, and photography. (Tell me you’re an introvert without telling me you’re an introvert amirite?)
His response? “That’s boring.” 😬
What hobbies did he have? none. Apparently no hobbies is more interesting than having hobbies. 🙄🙄
There was no second date – for a multitude of reasons. 😂😂
I could have pretended that I had “fun” and “exciting” hobbies like white water rafting but trying to pretend to be someone I’m not is exhausting. Besides, I’m pretty awesome just the way that I am. 😉
Stop Hiding & Be Your Authentic Self
This isn’t about dating. Not being your authentic self shows up in every single aspect of your life.
- Minimizing your symptoms connected to your brain injury
- Only doing activities that your friend/partner wants to do
- Making decisions in your biz based on what OTHERS think you should do
- Going against your intuition because you’re worried what people might say
It can turn into launching a monthly membership program one year into your business, as a solopreneur and as you’re recovering from a concussion. Which in hindsight was not the best idea for that time and ultimately led to my burning out and shutting it down after a few months.
Or it can show up as not trusting yourself and your ability to make decisions in your business – so you turn to Facebook groups and other entrepreneurs. Which can often result in having even MORE choices to pick from and feeling more overwhelmed than before you asked.
It’s Time to Start Trusting Yourself
This was me back when I first started my business.
I used to overthink everything, thinking I needed assurances from other entrepreneurs & people in Facebook groups.
I didn’t trust myself and my decisions so I asked for advice and THAT ended up hurting my business.
The ill-timed membership group was only one of the decisions I made by committee that ended up costing me time, money and energy – none of which I could afford to spend willy nilly.
Learning how to trust in myself and to make decisions from my Wise Mind (or my gut, or intuition) helped me to create a business that works for me regardless of what’s going on in my life.
Do I need to take time off to recover from neurosurgery? Okay, let’s figure out a way to do that without feeling guilty or worrying about all the “what ifs”.
Do I need to take a nap in the middle of writing this blog post because I get absolutely exhausted? Okay because I know I can come back to it and if it gets published a day later than I had “planned” so be it.
It is what it is.
But in the first 2 years of my business? It wasn’t like this. Every time I needed to rest, or pause, or take a break I would mentally beat myself up because “no one else running a business needs to rest this much.”
Hello judgements! 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
Also, sure they are. I just don’t see it or know about it because we don’t always talk about it.
What’s Right For You?
And by listening to my body and doing what is needed for ME & MY business I’ve been able to create a feeling of spaciousness inside my business that helps me to live the life I actually want.
Because it turns out I actually prefer to work less and that I don’t need to be on all the platforms, doing all the things to be successful in my business. Which I wouldn’t have figured out if I hadn’t burned out early on and then took the time to figure out what works for me.
I ended up creating a blueprint for myself that helps me to stay consistent but that also allows me to take some much needed time off.
And on Thursday, February 24th at 12pmEST I will be teaching a FREE webinar sharing what’s inside this blueprint and how you can use it to “Create a Sustainable Business Without Letting Imposter Syndrome Take Over.
I created this training because I see what my fellow entrepreneurs are going through. I’ve been there myself. Their struggles are all the things I learned how to face & deal with.
- Imposter syndrome
- Comparison-itis
- Perfectionism
- Avoidance, procrastination and distractions
I see it in their Facebook posts, their questions and I know that I can help
With my years in the mental health field, combines with my mindfulness training and my own lived experience, this blueprint has everything that you need to create a business without burning out.
